Sneed, 76, died of natural causes on January 13, 2007, in Camarillo. A funeral service and burial was held January
16, 2007, at Mount Sinai Mortuary, Simi Valley.
He was born on Dec 24, 1930, in Searcy, Arkansas, to Bertie May and Charles Sneed. He is survived by his wife Judith Sneed. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Genevieve Sneed, and his children, Pamela Earls, Anthony and Zuzana Sneed, Thomas and Susan Scott, Paul Sneed, Regina and Terry Ucker, Andrea and Tony Figueroa, Tienou and Elise Sneed. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Kerrigan, Heather, Samuel, Charles, Elliana, Daniel, Gregory, and Adam. He is preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter Cynthia.
Tom Sneed was a great man, a wonderful father and a supportive and loving husband. He was a distinguished medical doctor, with specialties in radiology, family practice and psychiatry. He loved to travel and had mastered several languages, including French, German, Spanish and Hebrew. He was a well-read, thoughtful and deeply spiritual man.
He received his BA and MD degrees from Washington University in Springfield, Missouri. He completed his internship at the Genesee Hospital in Rochester, New York. His residency in radiology was obtained at the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, and the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven, Connecticut. He was a recipient of an award in Cancer Research from the National Institute of Health.
He served as a captain in the US Army, Medical Corps, in Verdun France. He was the Radiology Consultant for all the American Hospitals in the Verdun/Alsace Lorraine area for three years. He left many good friends in France and continued those relationships over the years.
He practiced as a radiologist for the next 16 years and came to settle in Thousand Oaks, California, in 1969 with his family. He then decided to expand his practice into the field of psychiatry. He completed a three year residency program at UCLA. He worked as a psychiatrist at Camarillo State Hospital until his retirement in 1996 and at the California Youth Authority’s Ventura Girls School, from which he retired in 1998.
Tom will be missed dearly by his family and friends and will always be in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.
